While our winter is not as cazy as the summer, we have a lot to keep us busy in the winter. Living on a dude ranch means taking care of not only the people and the facilities, but the animals. And, unlike the people that leave in the fall and the buildings that can be shuttered and drained for the winter, the animals still need care.
We (and by “we” I mostly mean Randy Sue) feed the horses at pasture every single day. The feeding schedule has no holiday breaks, no weekends, no vacations.
It takes time, energy, and lots and lots of hay. But having a healthy, well cared for herd is well worth it. And getting to spend some time in the mountains along the Colorado river with a herd of beautiful animals is usually not the worst thing to have to do in a day.
Enjoy a few photos from one of the daily chores!
